Cricket was rescued from a high kill shelter in Northern Virginia, after having been seized from her owner due to neglect. She arrived under the weather, and her condition rapidly deteriorated. The vet who treated her suspects she had distemper, but tests were inconclusive.

Cricket walks with a stiff-legged gait, without really bending her legs. She has seizures, for which she takes daily (inexpensive) medication.

Cricket is in foster care, living with a beagle pack of brothers and sisters. She slides a little when running on slick surfaces such as tile, but nothing stops her from running around with the other dogs and enjoying herself. Cricket has shown herself to be VERY intelligent.  We've also learned that where Cricket is concerned... where there's food, there's a way...  Cricket has demonstrated ingenuity in obtaining extra snacks.  Her new home will need to have a trashcan with a secure lid... and maybe a brick on top of the lid.  Other than that, she is very well-behaved.

Cricket is a happy well adjusted dog, and just full of herself. Cricket is such a great dog, and no one is ever interested in her... that's so sad. We believe that Cricket has a condition called Musladin-Lueke Syndrome, which is sometimes referred to as "Chinese Beagle Syndrome."  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO ON THIS CONDITION  The good news is that it should not worsen, indeed, her condition has been stable for about a year. She does have occasional seizures, controlled by inexpensive medications. We'd love to find a home for Cricket. She's used to all the activity at the FDC, and was lonesome when left at home with other dogs at a different foster home where the foster mom worked outside the home. We'd like to find a home where someone is home much of the time, as Cricket thrives on human company.
