Beagles to the Rescue!

IOWNA LINK

7 Y.O. Female
Special Needs

Iowna Link is blind, but gets around her active foster home like she has radar. She wanders about the home, goes through the doggy door, down the porch steps, and cruises around the front yard. She runs around. Don't tell HER she's special needs.... This dog has a nose that won't quit. She has an uncanny ability to find someone opening a treat container. Her eyes responded well to the eye medications she takes a couple of times a day. She's never going to see, but right now she is pain free. We may still wind up removing at least one eye... but not for now.

Iowna Link came to BTTR on January 13, 2010 as an owner surrender. She arrived that evening, and we realized she was going to have to see the vet the next day. Our intrepid volunteers Myra and Bill got her in at the Virginia Beach Veterinary hospital the following day. (THANKS Va Beach Vet Hospital for working her in so fast -- they always go the extra mile)

The doctor took one look at this little girl and called a local eye specialist, who agreed to see Iowna Link that day on an emergency basis. Iowna Link has advanced glaucoma.  She immediately began taking eye drops. We expected to have to have one or both eyes removed, but so far she has responded very well to the eye drops.

Iowna Link is fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, on heartworm and flea preventative. She is TINY - maybe 11 pounds.  Iowna is very confident about roaming around at the dog club. This girl is full of confidence, and will run up to the fence with the other dogs. Do you have room in your home and in your heart for this tiny girl?
